The Richmond Heritage Commission would like to congratulate the recipients of the 2013 Richmond Heritage Awards. These annual awards are given in recognition of an individual or an organization who has enriched, or significantly contributed to, Richmond’s heritage resources. The 2013 recipients are Mr. Bill London, for his lifelong contributions and extensive volunteerism in support of London Heritage Farm; Mr. Ron Hyde, for his documentation of the history of the Interurban Tram in his publication The Sockeye Special: The Story of the Steveston Tram and Early Lulu Island; and the Nikkei Fisherman’s Committee for their ongoing work promoting the history and culture of Japanese Canadian fishing families, culminating in the exhibit Ryoshi: Japanese Fishermen of the MC Coast at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. The recipients of the Heritage Awards are determined by a jury composed of Commission members and guest jurors from Richmond’s heritage community. The Commission received a number of deserving public nominations this year and would like to thank all those who submitted a nomination. The 2013 Heritage Awards were presented at the annual Richmond-Delta Regional Heritage Fair. Congratulations again to Mr. London, Mr. Hyde, and the Nikkei Fisherman’s Committee!
